Popular amongst professional athletes and celebrities, cryotherapy exposes the body to extreme temperatures for a short amount of time to provide flash benefits such as muscle reparation and pain relief. It can also increase your metabolic rate and reduce inflammation. Exposure to extreme cold triggers the body’s fight-or-flight response. This produces a flurry of adrenaline and endorphins that trigger these key benefits.
Having heard the benefits of full-body cryotherapy, I was very intrigued to experience a Cryotherapy Facial at 111CRYO/HEAT , located on the 4th floor in Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge. I was greeted by Sania, the facialist for the treatment, and she proceeded to take me to the treatment room. Being the skincare enthusiast that I am, I showered her with questions, eager to learn what my next 30 minutes would entail.
Sania took the time to inform me about all the benefits of the Cryotherapy Facial. The list included everything from lymphatic drainage, anti-inflammation, increased collagen synthesis and cell rejuvenation. It’s also an effective treatment for breakouts. Unsurprisingly, I was sold.
Before beginning the treatment, we discussed my skin concerns. I have a combination of sensitive and blemish-prone skin with my cheeks being my main area of concern.
Using all 111SKIN products, Sania started to prep my face by cleansing and applying products that would enhance the treatment. Working one side of the face at a time, the vaporised liquid nitrogen was then applied for a total of 15 minutes. Sania moved the device in a pattern around my face and neck, targeting the cheekbone area. The air felt cold, but not uncomfortable, and was reminiscent of the sensation of skiing on a fresh winter's day. Immediately after the cold air stopped, the skin on my face felt tighter and toned.
Sania finished off the facial by applying the Rose Gold Radiance Booster, my personal favourite, to plump my skin and give it a dewy finish.
Waking up the next morning, the results were undeniable. My skin looked brighter, and face appeared to be more sculpted. For a lasting effects, I would recommend having a Cryotherapy Facial once a week or even as a special treat before a big event.
PRO TIP: With the effects of the facial lasting up to five days, it is best to spread out treatments to get maximum results.
