While we’re sad to see the back of summer and wave goodbye the warm weather, a new season means there’s lots to look forward. The arrival of Autumn means it’s time to get out your favourite leather boots, go coat shopping and start wearing your favourite chunky knit jumpers But it also means we get to say hello to whole new host of beauty trends we can try out.
An Unexpected Pop Of Colour
Thought neons and brights were exclusively reserved for summer and poolside lounging? Well think again. This summer it’s all about the subtle pops and flashes of colours. If you’re not afraid to make a statement then grab one of your brightest eye shadows and pat onto the lid, this look is all about being eye catching so don’t worry about contouring and blending but rather stick to a single colour on the lid. Using a damp brush can help to make the pigment pop, and we think this look is perfect for a night out. For something a bit more daytime friendly line your lower waterline with a bright aqua pencil.
We’re not thinking anything space age here or anything with an over load of glitter, this year’s metallics have gotten much more sophisticated. For the daytime try a light dusting of gold or silver eye shadow, metallic will really make your eyes pop and widen them up making them look brighter. In the evening reach for different shades of copper and bronze. Cream eye shadows work pretty well here as they are easy to build up, try patting the eye shadow all the way up to your brow for a strong eye look and leave your lips nude. If this is too much for you, try working a metallic lip instead. Purple-based metallic are particularly flattering and they have the added benefit of hiding any dry, flaky patches.
If bright colours really aren’t your style then you’ll pleased to know that this autumn everything is going a bit more gothic. Think dark, moody colours which make up a typical grunge look, smudged black kohl liner and lashing of mascara are your staples here. If you want to ease yourself into the look then a new lipstick in a must. Swap your usual bright red lipstick for a deeper, darker berry shade. Sweep across your lips and leave the rest of your face bare to make a statement. Continue the look with a dark nail polish of choice, if you like black then don’t forget to apply a base coat to prevent stained nail beds.
Thick, full and fluttery lashes are the order of the day for autumn. This trend was popular throughout the summer and it looks like it is here to stay. Think lashing of jet black mascara built up to achieve thick, full long lashes, if you want a real statement look then really pile it on to achieve clumped together spidery lashes – no other eye make-up needed here. If your lashes are a little on the sparse or short side and you can’t achieve this look with mascara alone then cheat with a good pair of false eyelashes or individual eye lash extensions.
Pale & Interesting
You may have spent all summer trying to achieve a golden glow, but now it’s time to put away the fake tan and embrace your natural skin colour. This looks not about looking flat, dull and washed out it’s all about luminosity and a healthy glow. You don’t need any bronzer here, instead grab a pearlescent highlighter and dab along your cheekbones, brow bones and down the length of your nose. If you want a lit-from-within glow then mix a few drops of highlighter with your foundation and apply all over.
