Summer lipstick trends
With a new season, comes a new range of lipstick trends to try out. Gone are the plum, burgundy and deep red shades of winter; say hello to bright neons and sultry nudes. Be prepared to have fun with your lipstick shades this summer.
The absolute go-to shade for summer lipstick wearers, Orange is a total staple for any skin tone. Lady Danger by Mac is a perfect universal orange, pair with nude eyes with just a sweep of mascara. For blush, keep it minimum, let the lipstick do the talking. An orange-y blush will be best, or even blend in a touch of the lipstick on the cheeks instead of reaching for a powder; it will tie the face together.
Not a usual summer colour, but a blue-toned pillar box red is a perfect shade for a busy Sunday. Wear with a striped Breton top and blue jeans for true Parisian chic. Try a liquid lipstick if you don’t want to keep applying, or if you’re after a softer sheen, Clinique’s Lip Pops have a range of summery reds that wear incredibly comfortably.
From neon to pastel, any pink shade is perfect for a summer’s day. If you’re afraid of going bold, pink is a great compromise as you can go as subtle as you’d like. Try a pink lip liner with some clear gloss or lip balm over the top for a longer lasting stain. We are obsessed with Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Pillowtalk’ for a your-lips-but-better pink.
If a thick lipstick isn’t your thing, try a gloss instead. Avoid sticky formulas as, your hair will inevitably end up sticking to your mouth; not a cute look. A clear gloss is a great way to add a sheen to the lips without overkill. Or reach for something with a very slight colour, the Lancome Juicy Shakers give a great wash of subtle, summer colour.
