OUR MASK DNA

By Nateisha Scott

Standing out from the often-concentrated crowd, masking has truly conquered its way to becoming the most groundbreaking concept to hit the beauty market. Heralding from Korea, sheet masks have quite arguably become one of the fastest growing beauty trends in the western world. According to Google, ‘masking’ has become the most popular skincare search term on the internet.

Sheet masks are essentially face shaped, pre-cut fabrics that have been absorbed in active ingredients, serums and carefully selected extracts. Available in a variety of fabrics; paper, woven fibres, hydrogel and bio-cellulose, sheet masks are designed to improve overall skin health and target niche concerns, such as dehydration, anti-ageing and acne. The adaptable, easy-to-use nature of masking has resulted in sheet masks becoming a cult classic amongst the A-list and beauty influencers alike, often reached for mid-flight or pre-red carpet.

Mask Intelligence

PAPER

The most elementary non-woven fabric, ‘paper’ sheet masks have a course, resilient texture due to the poor density of the material. The product within the mask often evaporates quickly and will not effectively absorb into the dermis.

COTTON

Widely available, micro-fibre sheet masks are often referred to as cotton or rayon due to their similar texture. Inexpensive to produce and subsequently sell, cotton masks are still poorly operative as they inadequately mould to the skins contours, resulting in an inconsistent application and hindering the performance of the formula.

HYDROGEL

A soothing, cooling, semi-solid gel which easily follows the curves and contours of the face. Made from a blend of serums, extracts and gelatin (water-soluble biocompatible polymers), the hydrogel mask is not breathable, therefore locking in the formula and forcing the dermis to absorb the essential ingredients. Fundamentally, hydrogel masks focus on brightening, hydrating and soothing the skin. Widely renowned for being the most product absorbing mask on the market the hydrogel masks are filled with soothing and restorative that truly awaken the complexion and at 111SKIN we curate our masks to not only carry this technology but tailor it to varying skin concerns.

BIO CELLULOSE

The most advanced technology in the sheet-mask market, bio-cellulose comprises of natural fibres 500x finer than its tissue equivalent. The fibres are essentially harvested, good bacteria entirely comprised of skin-advancing ingredients. Acting as an additional epidermal layer (a second skin), bio-cellulose absorbs in moisture and forces the formula deep into the dermis more effectively than paper, cotton or hydrogel masks alike. Primarily developed to treat medical conditions such as wounds or burns, 111SKIN has effectively utilised the same concept within the Bio Cellulose Facial Treatment Mask. Containing Arbutin to brighten, Silk Amino Acids to condition and Centella Asiatica to stimulate collagen production, resulting in hydrated, toned skin. The concept doesn’t conclude at the visage, the Y Neck and Décolletage Treatment Mask is designed to directly treat sagging, fatigued skin below the jaw line, working in perfect unison with other treatment masks available at 111SKIN.

The 111SKIN masks stand out from others because of their formulation, they are filled with a concentrated amount of active ingredients that offer instant results immediately after use. Extracting the technology from ingredients that actively work to help the skin and implementing that into the 111SKIN masks, promises to deliver clinical-inspired results that has been scientifically led.
