MULTI-MOISTURISING

Multi-Moisturising

In the same breath that multi-masking has bridged a new concept for personalised skincare, can the same be said for moisturising?

The idea behind multi-masking is utilising potent ingredients to target specific concerns of the skin. For example, the idea that different areas of the face require different needs, some skin types may suffer with dryness in areas and some with oily/combination concerns but the magic that is multi-masking means you can treat your skin with a microscopic result.

Can the same be said for moisturising?

Moisturisers are comprised of emollients and hydrators or humectants. Emollients moisturise the skin, sealing in the moisture hydrators draw water to the skin, sourced from water-based products or the environment surrounding it. Whilst all moisturisers contain a mixture of both, the balance can vary dependent on the formulation. Applying this idea to the skin, parts of the face can require more emollients than hydrators and vice versa – an example being those that suffer with an oily T-Zone, across the forehead and nose will require a lighter emollient as the skin naturally produces a lot of oil from the sebaceous glands, this can mean that if applying a thick and heavy moisturiser it can cause breakouts. For the cheek areas, which may be drier, supplementing in a moisturising emollient will prove beneficial as the area produces less oil.

It is important to be in tune with your skin’s needs in order to refine your approach.
