DRAINAGE, STIMULATION AND MASKING

By Nateisha Scott

You have heard about the Gua Sha’s and you have seen jade rollers all over social media but what exactly are they doing for your complexion and how can you maximise their benefits in your masking and skincare routine?

What do facial tools focus on?

Facial tools are proven to stimulate blood flow, increase circulation, ease muscle tension and stimulate your lymphatic system in order to get rid of toxins. Your lymphatic system or lymph is the matrix of organs, cells and tissues that help the body get rid of waste and toxins. The lymph must be drained through either regular massages or movement that stimulate the body’s processes. With poor care and attention given to the lymph it means you can often feel sluggish, see an increase in water retention and promote poor blood circulation. Your lymph fluid doesn’t move on its own and requires movement and attention for this to shift and drain hence where tools like your jade rollers and gua shas come into place to help the process flow.

Drainage and Stimulation

There are techniques in which you can undergo that will stimulate the lymphatic drainage. A facial massage is one way in which you can tackle the puffiness and blemishes within your complexion. Using your jade roller, you want to roll upwards and never in an up and down direction, repeating up to a few times in one direction. Starting with your jaw line, roll under the jaw towards the ear then under the cheekbone towards the hairline. Finally, you want to roll flat along the brows and then upwards on the forehead. Combining the power of massage and masking, apply your sheet mask beforehand and then complete the technique on top of the mask whilst the ingredients penetrate into the skin, this will encourage a further absorption into the skin.

Similarly, your Gua Sha helps to release tension and tighten the complexion ensuring that your skin is instantly left supple and glowing. Done either before or after your face mask, ensure the skin is lubricated before rolling out the technique. Using the curved side of your tool, implement short strokes in one direction, working along the jaw line, cheek bones, brows and forehead. Completed with firmness will relax your muscles whilst a softer approach will tackle drainage and puffiness.

Masking

Designed with your skin concerns in mind, apply your face mask and leave on the skin to penetrate the complexion and elevate your routine by simply implementing your facial tools before or after.
