No matter how many pieces of advice we read or how many times we remind ourselves, we can sometimes sabotage our skin with skincare mistakes. However, most of them are easily rectifiable if we were only to remind ourselves to practice our skincare routine as though it were a religion. Below, I list the most common skincare mistakes that are sabotaging your skin’s potential. Avoid these and you will be on the right track for a glowing and youthful complexion:

Forgetting to take your makeup off before bed 

It’s the most common, yet most unforgiveable skincare sin. It’s the last thing we do before we go to bed and so it’s not of any surprise that we can sometimes be too tired or too forgetful to want to take our makeup off. However, neglecting this one simple step can cause the makeup to clog your pores and will lead to breakouts and an uneven complexion. Smoking and drinking 

Smoking and drinking often come hand in hand as you can start to really chain smoke as soon as you’ve had some alcohol and this is one of the worst things for your skin. Smoking is a free radical and can cause the process of oxidation. When our skin goes through the process of oxidation, the skin cells are essentially dying. The result is a breakdown in collagen and elastin, leaving the skin saggy and wrinkle prone. Drinking also has negative consequences for the skin as it leaves you dehydrated. You don’t wear UV protection

UV protection should be worn daily, even throughout the winter. It’s not only UVA rays you need to worry about, but also UVB rays. Both rays will cause damage to the dermis, creating fine lines and wrinkles and causing pigmentation and ageing. Up to 80% of UV rays can penetrate through the clouds so you need to ensure you are protected at all times.
