In the winter the skin often becomes drier, as the weather becomes colder and the humidity levels drop. To combat the cold, bitter weather outside we often turn up the heat inside the home, but this only robs the skin of further moisture. As a result the skin of the face, hands and feet can become uncomfortable tight and dry. For some people the winter weather can have more serious side effects on their skin, it can be red, inflamed and cracked, or in the worse eczema. Yet with the right skincare routine you can prevent this from happening, and maintain healthy, glowing skin no matter what the season. 

1. Keep Hydrated
It's important to stay hydrated, not just for your skin, but for your health.The recommended amount for adults if eight glasses a day, but if you don't like the taste of plain water then try adding some slices of fruit for a flavour infusion - our favourite is lemon and lime wedges. Alternatively you could drink green or herbal teas, but just try to limit your intake of caffeinated or sugary beverages. It is sometime believed that drinking lots of water will keep you youthful, and while this isn't strictly true it will improve your complexion. When the skin is dehydrated it looks dull, lacklustre and wrinkles appear more pronounced.

2. Exfoliate Regularly
If you don't exfoliate then it leads to a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, and prevents your moisturiser from working effectively. The build-up also makes your skin look dull and dry, so remember to exfoliate on a weekly basis (or twice a week if your skin is oily). 3. Change your skincare routine
Even though your skincare products may have worked for you all year round, they may not be right for your skin during the winter when it's drier. Some cleansers may be too harsh or drying, so look for one which contains glycerin like the Lift Off Purifying Cleanser. Glycerin is a moisturising agent, and this cleanser will remove all impurities from the skin without stripping it of natural moisturising oils. You should also consider swapping from a lighter emulsion to a more hydrating cream. 

4. Don't forget the sunscreen!
You may think sun cream is just for the summer, but in the the winter the sun can still damage your skin - as can snow glare. Ideally you should wear a minimum of SPF30 year round to protect your skin. UV exposure is the main cause of premature ageing can lead to dry skin, rough texture, fine lines and wrinkles, and pigmentation spots. 

5. Increase the hydrating power of your products
