Natural oils have grown in popularity recently.  There are many available, alone and in a variety of combinations, so here is a list of the top five, and what they are good for.

  1. Jojoba Oil

This is a natural plant oil, which comes from the jojoba tree, native to Mexico, Arizona and California.  It is a liquid ester that is very similar in composition to the oil produced by human skin, which makes it great for oil or combination skin.  It can be used to cleanse, moisturise, and even remove make up.

  1. Coconut Oil

Completely natural, this contains a winning combination of saturated fats, lauric acid, protein and Vitamin E.  Saturated fats make the surface of the skin smooth, lauric acid is a natural anti-microbial, protein help to rejuvenate the skin, and Vitamin E is well known for its healing properties.  A fantastic ingredient.

  1. Marula Oil

This comes from the kernels of the marula nut, which is native to East Africa.  It has high concentrations of anti-oxidants, and is very good for increasing elasticity and firmness.    It also has an anti-inflammatory effect and has a calming effect on irritated skin; it is very gentle, and in the past was used by women to cleanse themselves instead of water.

  1. Argan Oil

From the kernels of the Argan tree, native to Morocco, this oil has been used for centuries to nourish and protect skin.  It contains natural sources of Vitamin E, as well as potent anti-oxidants.  It is particularly good for dry skin, and is very gentle.

  1. Pomegranate

This fruit is full of anti-oxidants, and the oil from its seeds is also high in concentration of these helpful ingredients.  It also has anti-inflammatory properties and is a great moisturiser.  Combined with its anti-oxidant activity, these properties make it a wonderfully soothing treatment for skin bothered by eczema, psoriasis, or sunburn.
