First off how great does Bridgette Bardot look in this big floppy sun protecting hat?

Anyway, Antioxidants help your skin by protecting it!

They can be nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals and protein enzymes, which limit the production of free radicals.

Antioxidants Protect from Free Radicals

Free radicals start a process called oxidation, which damages skin cells. This free radical damage accelerates the normal aging process of the skin, so the skin becomes thinner and loses its elasticity more rapidly.

Antioxidants benefits:

  • Firstly, they are anti-inflammatory.
  • They draw in moisture and plump the skin surface.  This has the effect of reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, (which is particularly useful around the eye area.)
  • They increase blood flow to the skin.  Some increase blood flow to the skin surface, making the skin tone more even and the skin generally smoother.  Others, such as those found in aloe and Vitamin E, increase the blood flow to scar tissue, minimizing its appearance.
  • They encourage new cell production, giving the damaged skin a more youthful appearance.  As well as scavenging for free radicals, some antioxidants – such as those found in grapes and soya – have been found to protect against UV rays.  Antioxidants therefore protect against sun damage as well as reducing its effects.

Using skincare products which contain anti-oxidants can reduce the signs of aging, as well as improving your health and appearance.  Your skin is the largest organ in your body; while there is no one solution to the aging process, anti-oxidants are important part of the solution.
